Welcome

Welcome to Özyeğin University German Law Research Center

The Özyeğin University German Law Research Center was launched on March 26, 2012, Monday with an inauguration ceremony followed by a panel on German Criminal and Administrative Law.

The German Law Research Center also succeeded to print by the time of the launch ceremony two scholarly bilingual publications including the first issue of the Rechtsbrücke/Hukuk Köprüsü journal as well as another publication on General Provisions of Turkish and German Criminal Law.

Our center strives to conduct research on German law, which has had a major influence on Turkish law; play a pioneering role in international scholarly projects; facilitate robust information exchange between both countries; support graduate studies; produce bilingual publications; and act as a reliable consultant and provide expert opinion for real and legal persons as well as legal bodies in both countries. Where German law has the largest influence on Turkish law, our center will serve as a bridge to transfer the fundamental codes and judicial decisions of German law as well as academic research pertaining to German law to the legal circles by taking into consideration their potential impacts on Turkish law. Our center also endeavors to act as a hub for joint research projects for German legal origin countries in the region. The center seeks to realize this mission through its private library and the law library situated in the same building as well as its quiet study spaces that are open 24/7 throughout the year.

Our center also takes pride in its distinguished executive and advisory board members, including German scholars Prof. Dr. iur. Dr. phil. Paul Tiedemann and Prof. Dr. Jan. C. Joerdan, who are/have been mading significant contributions to the development of Turkish law through their scholarly projects and valuable academic efforts.

The Center’s private library is also open to public with its wide collection growing larger each day  independently from the Law Library and offering access to a variety of books, journals and other publications as well as databases pertaining to German Law. The Center’s private library welcomes anyone that wishes to conduct scholarly projects or aspires to have their scholarly publications printed in the Rechtsbrücke/Law Bridge journal for both Turkish and German legal circles.

The Center is dedicated to contributing to the development of joint academic publications and  bringing Turkish and German legal professionals together through its series of projects and scientific events held either independently or in collaboration with other Law Faculties or institutions and organizations.

Our center is open to anyone interested in benefitting from the resources and facilities of the Özyeğin University German Law Research and Application Center as well as the know-how and experience of its esteemed members.

 Kind Regards,
